Windows 10 won't recognize drive but detects USB ATA bridge
Hey guys, I have a Windows 10 PC and I'm trying to fix a friend's computer. She interrupted a Windows 10 update and every time she turned on the computer, it got the PXE-E53: No boot filename received error, followed by 'Reboot and Select proper Boot device...'
So I took out her hard drive (Seagate 1TB, which I thought I saw something about Windows 10 being finicky about any USB drive 1TB or bigger) and plugged it into my Vantec SATA to USB 2.0 adapter.
I've used this adapter now for about 4 years and this is the only time I've had any issues with PnP. Drive starts up just fine, no odd sounds from it, even sounds like it thinking when I get the chime from my computer that a device was plugged in. However, all that happens is it detects the USB to ATA/ATAPI bridge, and in Device Manager I see USB Mass Storage Device, but then about a minute later it disappears. Sometimes I'll get the yellow caution sign next to the device in Device Manager, and when I do the troubleshoot it just uninstalls the drivers and instructs me to reboot. However, that hasn't worked.
What is weird is that about 3 months ago, my PC, the one I'm trying to plug the USB into, wouldn't detect an SD card plugged into the media ports on the front of the tower. I went in to device manager at that time, did the troubleshoot, and it too wouldn't work. I downloaded the chipset drivers from Intel directly and then it worked, but this isn't working in my current situation.

That said, I'm hoping someone has experience with this or can shed some light? I have tried on two separate PC's (both with Windows 10 as I no longer have access to any PC with W7 on it sadly). The USB doesn't even show up in Disk Management so I can't even assign a drive letter to it. Again, my PC recognizes it as a USB Mass Storage Device, but then it eventually removes it from the list before I can even look at anything.
