Has Anyone Noticed A Lowing Of Download Torrent Spedd

Looking for a way to increase your Internet speed without upgrading your ISP Internet plan? Well, Internet speed can depend on a several factors, both internal to the network and external. You may notice only certain sites are slow and this is because of the debate around net neutrality. If you’re wondering why your torrent downloads. A torrent download is not a straight download from a very fast server. You are getting little tiny pieces of the overall file(s) from other peoples hard drives. There is no one 'torrent central' that holds that file and gives it to you at uber speed.

qBittorrent version and Operating System

qBittorrent: 4.0.4 (64-bit)
Qt: 5.10.0
libtorrent: 1.1.6.0
boost: 1.66.0
OS version: Antergos OS (Rolling release)

If on linux, libtorrent and Qt version

Qt: 5.10.1-7
libtorrent: 1.1.6-1

What is the problem

For a couple of weeks now, whenever I add torrents they start to download but in an inconsistent way. No matters if it is one or 7, seeded or not, all I get is a lot of peaks in the speed graph (see screenshots attached).

Maybe it has to do with the settings in qBittorrent, despite I haven't change them for a year. I leave the set limits here:

  • Max total connections: 500
  • Max connections per torrent: 100
  • Upload speed global limit: 800 KiB/s
  • Max active downloads: 10
  • Max active uploads: 5
  • Max active torrents: 20

SpeedTest results

  • Download speed: 224 Mbps
  • Upload speed: 99 Mbps

What is the expected behavior

A more continuous graph with less ups and downs.

Steps to reproduce

Add torrents and watch the speed graph.

Hmm, have you checked your router? Probably lowering the connection number would help, I would tinker with both. Like disable router firewall, lower connection number, etc. (Lower connection does NOT mean lower download speeds at all.)

I have the same issue on the latest version (v4.0.4) on two PCs running Windows 10. Just downloaded and installed older version v3.3.16 and there aren't any speed drops.

Can confirm this affects upload too on 4.0.4/Windows 10, as you can see from the speed graph I attached

@Balls0fSteel I'll try lowering the max total connections as you suggest, but these settings have been like this for a long time.

I have this same issue. I didn't change any settings, including on my router, just kept upgrading through the versions.

I'm not sure the overall download speed is affected though. I have a feeling that the average download speed is the same, it's just the display that fluctuates a lot. I say that based on download times and the fact that the speed displayed is sometimes well in excess of what my internet connection is capable of, suggesting that there was some buffering.

Since the release of v4.0.0, the peer list is opening slowly as well, in my case. Every time I open it, I can notice some lag when scrolling through the list of peers.

I also noticed that pausing/unpausing torrents, enabling/disabling download of individual large files within a torrent and deleting torrents from the list is also very slow. Deleting in particular often freezes the app for several seconds.

I was away for a few days and when I turned on my computer, I noticed a sudden drop in my internet speed. I used to be able to download games from steam at around 3.2 Mb/s and it dropped to 800 Kb/s. Also, streaming videos online has drastically slowed down. When I went to the windows troubleshooter, it told me my dns wasn't working correctly. I searched online for this and found that I have to change my preferred dns to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. After I did this, the troubleshooter said there was no problem, however, my internet is still a lot slower than it has been. If anyone knows what the problem is, please let me know.
Thanks.
